5. Keep patients engaged in their healthcare
Research finds that patients actively engaged in their healthcare have better health outcomes and lower healthcare costs. People are more likely to pursue or follow through with recommended care if they fully understand their condition and treatment options, or the importance of preventative care.
Patient education is vital for engagement. Some may not continue medications to prevent progression of chronic eye conditions such as glaucoma. Others might not act upon a treatment if they don’t recall their provider’s recommendations. And, many will put off annual exams because things seem fine.
This is where patient engagement comes in. When you proactively share health information through email, social media, or on your patient portal in addition to direct patient communications, you’re helping patients recall important information ultimately stay more engaged in their health.
